Justice Taney on Lincoln’s Suspension of Habeas Corpus by Laurence M. Vance: "The petitioner resides in Maryland, in Baltimore county; while peaceably in his own house, with his family, it was at two o'clock on the morning of the 25th of May 1861, entered by an armed force, professing to act under military orders; he was then compelled to rise from his bed, taken into custody, and conveyed to Fort McHenry, where he is imprisoned by the commanding officer, without warrant from any lawful authority."
Some history for today. It has become popular around town to attack Chief Justice Taney. I think that anyone who looks objectively at the man and his record will want to defend him.
A blog about anything that interests me in Maryland or the greater Mid-Atlantic area.

The creepier side of the state's capital -- baltimoresun.com
The creepier side of the state's capital -- baltimoresun.com: "Okonowicz writes, 'some believe Annapolis, one of America's oldest towns, also to be one of the country's most haunted locations.'"
I'm a bit of skeptic, but I'll keep an open mind.
If I see anything in Annapolis that strikes me as supernatural I will report it here.

Taney's tainted legacy - baltimoresun.com
Taney's tainted legacy - baltimoresun.com
I resent these people who don't know anything about Justice Taney wanting to remove tributes to him. The man was more than one case. The case was wrongly decided and his opinion was offensive, but not for the all of the same reasons that these people think it was. Robert Bork draws a good comparison between Scott, Lochner, and Roe creating Constitutionals rights (slavery, contract, and abortion) out of the Constitution that was silent on the issues.
On the personal level, Taney freed his own slaves and provided them with pensions. He condemned the institution of slavery calling it 'a blot on our national character.' These are not the actions or words of a pro-slavery man.

Here is some video of the boat I am working on.
Called The Federal Hill it is a 1976 S2 sailboat.
I hope to be able to take it out in a week or two.
